There's plenty of camping sites on the facilities list on the Castlerigg site, and some hotels,(pubs seem miles off) as well for people to arrange accomodation...Fancy the Scarfell Hotel, once stayed there years and years ago, it was sort of in the middle of nowhere if I remember.........

Moss,

There are plenty of pubs in Keswick, an easy walk, all downhill, from the Castlerigg Hall and Castlerigg Farm campsites, next door to each other, and always a taxi available to take you back if you're worse for wear. There is also a public bar called the Crag Bar, which is next to the two campsites, and part of the Heights Hotel.

By the way, the Scafell Hotel is 6 miles south of Keswick, down the lovely Borrowdale valley at Rosthwaite.

All the best,
TE.

[/quote]oooh, there's loads to see around this bit of Cumbria alone. You've got the 2 Megs, Glassonby, Clifton Stones, Leacet, Gunnerkeld, the 2 henges at Eamont bridge, a possible Long Barrow and it isn't far too Moor Divock and all the wonders there. There are some holiday cottages available in Great Salkeld (close to Meg) but you will be able to find more info on here http://www.cumbriatourism.org/

There are also some fab castles round here, if that floats yer boat!

Thanks V

Well that sounds like a good starter for a few days so may see if I can do a long weekend or something.

Probably visit a few places along the way up from and back down to Wiltshire also.

Here is a webite with some B&Bs in Keswick, holiday cottages can be a bit expensive in June. Hope Rex gets better, Moss is coming up for his 10th birthday this year.....

Hi Moss

Rex is on the mend now and thanks to all those who asked about him.

He is about 11 now andmanaged to slip a disc in his back after getting scared during one of November fireworks nights which, combined with his arthritic problems, made him a very unhappy collie.
I drove him over to West Kennet LB and then to Avebury last weekend which was his first megalithic outing since his problems started.
Although quite tired and stiff at the end of it he seemed to enjoy himself.
Not sure he is up to a long drive to Cumbria but I will see how it goes.

We both hope to see you all at Castlerigg in the summer.

Hi all,
Sorry to go over this again but is this date (13th?) set in stone then? And where and what time are we meeting?
I would like to book something as soon as I can so just want to make sure i got it all straight.

And just another thing ....are dogs (on leads of course) allowed into both Meg and Castlerigg?

Hey there

Well, I will be there with Vicky on the 13th so you are free to join us! Others have also said yes to this date, so consider it booked. As for dogs, no reason why not as long as they are on a lead. Can't think of any of the other sites that are close by that you may ned up visiting that would be much of a problem either.

Look forward to meeting you
