'Tis a painting of 'Just a pile of stones'. Honest! The strong directional light we get at this time of year helps with the realism and hard edges in these pebble pics. You gotta have shadow.

In my opinion....... I find much of his stuff grey, pale and cold. We were also shown some pieces from the south downs and from Avebury with what was supposed to represent standing stones....I just didn't get it. Saying that I think one image of his was of Stonehenge from a Shell guide..and I liked that...but then you could see what it was! I am not commenting on his skill as an artist, I am just giving my personal opinion. Mr H

I visited Kelvingrove in Glasgow yesterday and saw this: The Fairy Raid: Carrying off a Changeling – Midsummer Eve, 1867, Sir Joseph Noel Paton (1821-1901), oil on canvas, 90.5 x 146.7cm Full of pretty imagery however the blurb said that it was a sinister painting depicting the faires coming to steal away a baby and leave an ugly changeling in its place.

One of my favourite paintings! There is always something new to see in it. For those who haven't seen it it is a lot more majestic in scale and size when viewed face to face. Well worth a visit to Kelvingrove for it alone.
