OK so I know the press release this morning has absolutely nothing to do
with this - so no-one saying its our own fault - that was not released to
anyone outside of local press and the Guardian til this morning!!
Some absolute mindless twat(s) seem to think its a good prank to have
splattered bright yellow gloss paint over the entire ring in some cases both
sides of the stones. Damage was found this morning by a member of a
geo-phys team arrving for work. I have just had a call to tell me that the
oldest measured lichen colony in the UK has a line of paint running down it
plus splatters.
As you can no doubt imagine I am more than a little upset - I am in fact
feeling bloody murderous!!
EH have been informed and are talking to NT about methods used at Avebury
for previous paint vandalism.
My the Gods help whoever did this if I ever meet them because they will be
about the only force capable of holding me back now.

Some people are inherently idiotic, I think... Same sort of people who go out of a Friday night looking to break a nose - any nose...
I think the phrase "mindless tw*t(s)" encapsulates all possibilities. Although I do feel it's a bit soft on the perpetrators. But there may be kids about.
2 minute's silence for the helpless victims of vandalism... :(

Still hoping it's not true, but losing hope. Vandalism doesn't seem to fit the bill somehow.... "over the entire ring in some cases both sides"... quite a big effort, and pre-planned.... but why?
