We are playing the Tommy fest which is just off the M55 which is only about 45/60 mins away from Southport....That's bank holiday Sunday and we are on at 21:15. Harvey Bainbridge x Hawkwind is playing too.... Any good venues for space/krautrock (as if there would be!) round your area Ta

Could this band be one guy and a bunch of machines?

Lotsa love for that Boris album . . . will have to give it a closer listen (I do have a tendency to "preview" more than "listen to" new stuff . . . )

I often get new stuff a few weeks ahead through the radio station -- but the Mute bastards didn't send us their last one either! Can't imagine being disappointed whatever the new one sounds like -- and the last two were pretty far out. Might be time to retrench before they move to Laos to record their next one playing logs in the jungle or whatever!

I seem to think that I listen to lots of new stuff, but my money seems to go more on delights from the past...anyway, er... The ones I like lots include: *Artpop by Githead, Colin Newman's poppiest outing. Why not? *Western Xterminator by RTX. Jennifer H kicks arse here, but not in a tuneless way like the previous RTX record! *Woke on a Whaleheart by Bill Callahan. Sounds a bit like No Other by Gene Clark sometimes and has production from former Royal Trux man Neil Hagerty *Part Two - The Endless Not by TG. Excellent stuff - the Psychic TV one was quite fun initially, but sounds a bit tired already. Not a huge fan of the Tadpoles... *You Gotta Problem with Me by JC. It's almost poppy compared to the previous several outings - the one star review on amazon is hilarious, I hope my enthuasistic review made that person waste his money! *You in Reverse by Built to Spill. *Drums and Guns by Low *the silver mt zion live album (when it comes out...probably my gig of the year so I'll mention that already) *Hibernaculum by Earth *the new New Pornographers (I know it's just indie power pop!) *Candylion by Gruff Rhys *All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone by Explosions in the Sky *Station by Alan Vega *Nostalgia by HTRK *Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails (I know, it's like Roger Waters directing Ministry!) *Jesus East by Black Cab *We Were Dead Before the Ship Sank by Modest Mouse *Saltbreakers by Laura Veirs. I quite liked the Shins too, despite their shiteness live etc The disappointments were more frequent: The Fall, The Stooges, Interpol, Jarvis Cocker (who could have made a good record, but hasn't ever), Von Sudenfed, Grinderman (c'mon, it's just Gallon Drunk!), Lou Reed's ambient cobblers etc

Grinderman - can't / don't agree. At all. Much. Get on that youtube and check out 'No Pussy Blues' on Jools Holland's boogie-woogie chumfest. Grinderman slay everything, from my angle, that show. Acoustic cardigan 'rockers' Travis - especially - know they got a booting that night. Always like yer amazon reviews Jason. Oops, becoming a HH chumfest!

Heavily processed "robot vocals" give it a 21st century Bruce Haack feel! even better (at least a little bit) was last year's collaboration with octopus project: house of apples and eyeballs. http://graveface.com/albums/thoaae.html

The Sunburned - Z I used to like Sunburned Hand Of The Man, and I like experimental music as much as anybody, but this is just wank. If I want to listen to 45 minutes of unco-ordinated noise I'll make it myself, thank you.

The Grinderman one probably didn't do much for me as the pre-release references to the Birthday Party made me compare that primal noise to the slightly more polite primal noise the Grinderman do. It was OK, but whoever described it as 'the bad Seeds on holiday' on here was right on the money IMO. The Gallon Drunk reissues further clouded my appreciation of it - maybe I'll change my mind, I have done over the odd Cave-related record in the past. I try not to watch Jools Holland as everytime I do I want to be sick in a bag and post it to the lame-asses booking acts for it I saw The Stooges a few times live in the last year and thought they were great - the fact they only played about one song from that LP says it all! The Psychic TV album compared is genius! Let's avoid a HH lovefest though, I might post an Unsung on that deleted Pet Shop Boys obscurity and wait for the wrath of the longhairs! (I can't since my tape of it died in the flood...).
