Re: Stone of Scone
Feb 18, 2002, 17:17
The Stone of Scone/Stone of Destiny was the stone on which all kings of Scotland were crowned. It supposedly originated as a piece of meteor which fell to earth somewhere in the Middle East. It then, apparently, cropped up in the Biblical myths as Jacobs pillow. It was brought to Scotland by the marauding, raping and pillaging Christain Militia and taken to Scone. Stolen by the English, it was taken dan saf and stayed under queenies throne until the 1950's when a small bunch of militant Scot Nats stole it back again. There were any number of copies made and now no one is sure if the stone which sits in Edinburgh Castle (whihc was 'given back to us' in about 97/98?) is the real thing. I've heard rumours that it's a fake and the real one sits in a tiny church at a place called Dull in Perthshire- but- shhhhhh- don't tell everyone ;) Personally methinks it looks like a sewer cover!
