Seeking suggestions for new-to-me music
Oct 13, 2015, 05:02
Hello Heads!

I've spent the past (so many years) inside my own musical echo chamber, sometimes craving new music but largely going deeper down my own rabbit holes. Mostly this goes back in time, trying to figure out the roots of who influenced those I love, following a coil spinning tightly around our own Cope, but chasing the same threads back to Spacemen 3, and the Texan scene with 13th Floor Elevators and Red Krayola. I digress though.

Lately I've been giving streaming music another whirl, just trying to drift with suggestions on my commute and really like rdio for this. I discovered Kandodo a couple years ago from this site, so put them in as a seed band.

I've since discovered:

Gnod/White Hills
Date Palms
500mg
Psychic Ills
Matt Baldwin
Pleides
Clorinde

I think I am getting more and more into droney analog synth/ambient stuff like Cope does with
D - c.o.m.p.o.s.e.r. and Leli B

Really do like Kandodo, although The Heads do not quite hit it. Maybe I am getting old and like the long, languid more ambient tracks (although the electronica "ambient" of the 90s never did it for me, either). Swim into the Sun, Kandy Rock Mountain, July 28, Witch Doctor, and Yamadharma are all spectacular.

I do have the Copendium and am working through it, some of it is hard work! It has taken me many listens to warm up to some of the A.R. Machines stuff but I will admit that is personal flaw. I am getting there... TV as Eyes has always been one of my faves but lots of other Chrome is still inaccessible to someone with my minimal navigational abilities. I mean, I know how to speak in tongues and fold spacetime like a guild member, but cmon, a lot of that is just hard to listen to.

Anyway, based on the above I would love more suggestions... y'all are brilliant!

(btw I am also open to all kinds of stuff and would love suggestions for other no-bullshit singer-bards like Cope but have a hard time finding similarly earnest heathen rock n rollers)
