I was on an alternative Economics course last year with somebody whose dad was a greengrocer in the mid 80s. She said she noticed at the time Sir Bobness was making his callouts for support for the 'famine' that a lot of her dad's wares had produce of Ethiopia printed on them or however things were done at the time.
So it looks like there was a major parallel to the Irish 'famime' where there was an active, possibly thriving export trade at the same time the native population were suffering.
Looks like Band/Live Aid were actually something of a distraction from a problem which should have had a somewhat different focus.
