Bit of a Japanese theme:

Kikagagu Moyo - Mammatus Clouds
Kikagagu Moyo - Forest of Lost Children. This is v enjoyable, though I prefer the longer pieces on the outstanding Mammatus Clouds
Ai Aso - Lone. Lovely
Afrirampo - We are uchu no ko. Hadn't played this for a while. Love the energy and enthusiasm of these two ladies - sounds like a bigger group.

New vinyl:
Anthroproph - Outside the Circle. Enjoying this...

Hakai No Ku - Ultra High Dimensionality. Mike Vest from Bong - more Mainliner like perhaps.

And then a Bong-fest:
Stoner Rock, Beyond Ancient Space and Mana-Yood-Sushai. Three fine albums.

Jane Weaver – The Silver Globe / Cherlokalate. Silver Globe is great, like a space rock version of Broadcast. Cherlokalate is one of her earlier albums, nice in an alt-singer-songwriter way, but shows how far she’s come.

Goat – Commune. What exactly is my problem with this band? Stuck it on in the car, and it undeniably sounds great, and yet… I think maybe it’s the shrieky, crazy mama singing that does my head in a bit. And maybe the bongos. Still, featured in The Guardian’s Guide this week, so sure to be providing the vibes at plenty of future north London dinner parties.

Dans Dans – I/II. Occasionally (very occasionally), you accidentally click on something on YouTube or Spotify and find something that’s actually quite cool… Dans Dans are a Belgian band that do instrumental jazz/rock covers in the style of twangy guitar maestro Gabor Szabo. Nice. Have a listen: https://soundcloud.com/undayrecords/dans-dans-gazelle/sets

Unwound – Repetition / Live in Reykjavik 1999. Fantastic second gen post-hardcore band who I just about completely missed while they were going, kind of a Sonic Youth meets Fugazi vibe.

Underworld – Dubnobasswithmyheadman. Inspired to listen to this again by a feature in this month’s Mojo (which also has a cover feature on Siouxie & the Banshees, and praise the metal gods, a piece on t’Priest! Last few issues have been a great improvement on the dull dogshit they were writing about at the start of the year). Really enjoyed it, in fact perhaps more so than in 1994.

Fire! Orchestra – Enter. Two thirds jazz skronk faff to one third jazz skronk nice, but when it’s good, it’s very good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbrR9JVeSgM

Talk Talk – Spirit Of Eden. This album never fails to astound me.

Retribution Gospel Choir – 3. And this is also still sounding bloody amazing. Seriously, if Neil Young at both his heaviest and most cosmic is your thing, this’ll blow your mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCdsDFteG4k

Snowman – Absence. Shoegazey techno-pagan oddness. Cranes/Slowdive/These New Puritans fans may like very much.

Jethro Tull – A Passion Play.

Midday Veil – The Current.

Jordan de la Sierra – ‘Music for Gymnastics’. From upcoming archival release. Mid-70s missing link between Eno and Philip Glass.

Heldon – various tracks. Been trying to get into their stuff, but there’s surprisingly little on YouTube and nothing on Spotify. Stuff I have heard is alright, but very derivative of Tangerine Dream, Fripp etc. Is Interface worth getting hold of?

Me also, this afternoon. I love it - the album that finally convinced me that "dance music" was not all rubbish :)

Agree with you about Mojo too, this month's a bit of a cracker - Vic Godard as well...

'the Dream' - compilation of artists from Poland. Norway and Iceland - freebie with Wire magazine. Very dreamy too.

Aphex Twin - Syro
Liking this very much - incredibly detailed patchwork of sounds brought together in a smooth, tuneful and uplifting set of tracks. Almost jazz in places but not cluttered. Very clever album.

Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit.
Easy listening for the week by grammy recording blue noter.

Longstone - Risaikuru:
12" vinyl includes a professionally printed CDR of the music, and an envelope containing a detailed text from Longstone and the two photographs that were the inspiration for the work.
Limited, Numbered edition of 99.
Recommended and available...

Minimal Self - Formula of Reversal
Scanner - Trawl

Originally released on 'Sentrax'
Two recordings connected to John Everall who passed away Friday
John worked as Tactile, Spacemarker, Multicide, Mesh and was the label boss of Sentrax.
He also collaborated with Coil, Nigel Ayers, Mick Harris amongst others. John performed at one of our Burst Couch nights putting in a great performance as well as bringing Karl Blake along to perform with Andrew Liles and Colin Potter,
John managed to complete two albums 'Deep Immersion Electronics' and 'Scatter My Ashes at Jodrell Bank' before he passed away.
He was a lovely bloke and a talented musician. RIP.

Have a good week all

New Longstone! Exciting!

Also, good to hear positive things about Aphex, reviews have been a little mixed.

It's a great album is the Longstone one - a good mix of experimental and songs.

Yeah the Aphex Twin album seems to be dividing people. I wasn't a fan of Druqs' or the harsher territory he was moving into prior to that. Always thought his talent is in melody as well as programming - selected ambient works1, polygon window, analog bubblebath 5....which is why I'm impressed with his new one.

Camera - Remember I was Carbon Dioxide
Second album by motorik kraut-tastic Berlin urban guerilla giggers. Stormin record'! OK, they wear their influences on their sleeve, but they do it so well, and the record is one of those great life affirming sonic blasts like Boredoms Vision Creation New Sun album.
Roehre - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrOfTbmLsDw
Synchron -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhOJOYYnS88
Camera, Michael Rother & Dieter Mobius October 2011 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrPaWOhknro

The Amazing Snakeheads - Amphetamine Ballads
The more I listen to this the more I love it. Lyrics delivered with real Glaswegian vitriol, and a superb Gallon Drunk/Morphine meets rockabilly sound. Bet they're great live.
Where Is My Knife (Live)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD0c233hyYM

Shellac - Dude Incredible
Initial listenings sound favourable, very much sticking with that fabulous tight and sinewy Shellac sound. I'd heard most of the songs on an old live boot someone sent me a while ago, but good to hear them in their studio guise. Just hope it's not 7 years till their next album, it's a long wait.
Mayor/Surveyor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o45nO1rmYbk

Dead Meadow - Howls From The Hills
Second fav' Dead Meadow album next to last years Fabbo Warble Womb. Feathers comes a close third. One and Old - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTh8UEl7qxQ

To Rococo Rot @ i Sound - Music Is a Hungry Ghost
Great laid back bass and 'sounds' excursions from one time Tarwater member Mr Lippok. Pantone - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU6Ke-afbM4

Speaking of which, Lippock's new/ recent venture with Jestram and Krohn "Dear Mr Singing Club" is a beautiful slab of Tarwater meets Faust/Neubauten skewed pop. Listen here...
Metall - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfWy-8XH27w
Der Zug Am Leibe - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z3bW-k-2UM

Have a good week y'all!
