The Jazz Scene - Various compilation from 1950. That's assuming this desert island had a stereo and electricity!

I'm probably going to go with Jehovahkill... It seems like it would be a balm for the insanity being alone on a desert island might bring about. If I am going to die alone in a frothy, dehydrated, sun-parched rage, seagulls pecking at my emaciated flesh while I am still squirming, that sounds like a decent soundtrack. If it is more of a vacation thing, waiting for a boat to pick me up, well.. still a decent choice, no?

I think I would want that album to be the one that triggers the richest memories. So one out of Ronnie Laws' "Pressure Sensitive", "Young Americans", "Station To Station" and either Spirit's "Spirit of 76" or "Two Sides Of The Rainbow". Can't split those really but "Young Americans" would probably shade it if I had to pick one.

Possibly something like "Lenny White's Astral Pirates" because it covers a lot of ground musically, it's entertaining and also, if I took one album by a really much loved band or artist, I'd probably start pining for the other albums and get depressed.

Virginia Astley - From Gardens Where We Feel Secure English summer pastoral, a green antidote to the desert island-ness. A close second would be Eno's Another Green World.

The Merzbow cd that came installed in a cd player permanently installed in a speedboat, the companion volume to the one that came in a car ;-) http://everything2.com/title/Merzbow+CD+Car Not sure about a real one, want it to be both immmediate and complex enough to reward repeated listening while continually discovering new aspects. Maybe Farewell Alderbaraan Judy Henske & Jerry Yester Basket Of Light Pentangle Paebiru After bathing at Baxters Funhouse by the Stooges can't decide. Could use it being my 20GB Atrac walkman if I could charge it. Cos that hundreds of hours of music in it. Stevo

I would fear that my safety is compromised if I was the passenger in a car with Merzbow playing! OK - I'll get the wise-ass answer out of the way - a spoken word album that tells me in 45 minutes how to assemble a sturdy boat. Proper answer - Joy Division - Closer. If by any chance the rescue party taking me off the island gets shot down and I am the only survivor - if I end up on a second island I'll play Felt - Forever Breathes The Lonely Word. I thang yew.

Got a vinyl copy of 'from gardens' album not so long ago - wonder if it had a CD reissue?

'FRIED'. It may not be warm enough though. Failing that, 'Neil Young - On The Beach'. Or.. 'Revolver'.
