I feel like i learned a lot from the garage/psychedelic compilations that rhino made in the early to late 80s. I think they were even called "rhino nuggets". also liked the compilations made by the strange budget label "collectables". The Cicadelic 60s compilations featuring The Basement Wall and other one offs are quite nice.

Did you get the free 7" with your copy of Grindcrusher? Allegedly the shortest 7" ever produced. Had Napalm Death on one side and Electro Hippies on t'other. Think each side was just over 1 second or something daft. Also recall another compilation around the same time on a label called Pathological which covered similar ground, but cast it's net a little wider musically. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Pathological-Compilation/release/68426 Remember the Some Bizarre Album having quite an influence on my musical tastes on it's release too. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Some-Bizzare-Album/release/28107

Crunchouse was a great late 80's compilation of grungey things inc the awesome Neighbor by Bastards. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Crunchouse/release/730643 The same period also saw Blast First's Nothing Short Of Total War which is worthy of mention. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Nothing-Short-Of-Total-War-Part-One/release/388215

Another enjoyable compilation, that contains a lot of familiar stuff, is the slightly pre-psychedelic 'freakbeat scene' decca compilation http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Freakbeat-Scene/release/532491 Contains the rather wonderful 'my father's name is dad'...

I am a sucker for good compilations, especially dance music ones. The Soul Jazz 'Disco' comps and the 'Horse Meat Disco' (Strut Records) comps, various Strut Records comps, the 'Metal Dance' are great ones, any number of decent Northern Soul collections. There are one or two Soul Jazz soul & funk ones I have my eye on.

Just had a butcher's, those DEUTSCHE ELEKTRONISCHE MUSIK ones? Not got those. I'm sure they're great, they have impeccable taste!

Misaluba oh-ohhh, Misaluba ohhh-oh Hehe! I think my tastes turned towards the more joyous as the economy -my economy - took a nosedive. Just brought to mind the uber-controversial 'Hard Times Chic' feature in Face mag.
