Hedvig Mollestad Trio – Enfant Terrible. It rocks - slowly but nicely.

Shining – In the Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be a Monster. More crazy skronk-rock-jazz-whatever from the essential Rune Grammofon label (home of Hedvig M, Motorpsycho etc).

The Unfiled Pile:

A Whisper in the Noise – To Forget. So, as I’m sure is the case for many of us, my hi-fi/listening space is cluttered with various heaps of CDs aka the one-more-listen-before-it’s-filed pile. Anyway, decided to start working my way through this… AWITN is one of those things I must have bought late night on Amazon (boo hiss etc) after a quick listen on YouTube or something, as it’s nice, but not spectacular, though I could see Low and GYBE fans getting excited about some of it.

The Psychic Paramount – II. This on the other hand is pretty spectacular, particularly as I had the chance to blast it out (well, kind of) over the speakers rather than through headphones, which is how most of my listening occurs. Incredibly energised and dynamic psyche/space rock, completely blows away most of the competition in this bracket, very highly recommended: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s1ppHxvzIg

Stara Rzeka – Cien Chmury Nad Ukrytym Polem (translates from Polish as ‘Old River - The Shadow of Clouds Over a Hidden Field’). Also pretty amazing in its own right, pastoral Krautrock with black metal overtones, but that really doesn’t do it justice. Interesting review here puts it in some kind of context http://www.tinymixtapes.com/music-review/stara-rzeka-cien-chmury-nad-ukrytym-polem , but really, it’s all in the listening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrgAZXqYq2g

Budgie – various, inc ‘Black Velvet Stallion’. Easily one of rock’s most underappreciated bands, and this track (from their post-MCA period), while atypical, is quite brilliant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6pj3HopC4Y

Listen With Father:

Massive Attack – Blue Lines. This is just so accomplished for a debut, and one of those records that can justifiably be said to have changed things when it came out. Moody head nods from the kids.

VA – Barry 7’s Connectors. I’m a sucker for decent library music, and there’s loads of quirky stuff on here to amuse small children. Volume 2 is absolutely essential for Morricone heads, featuring lots of superb early 70s Italian film stuff.

Finally, I’ve discovered that the 5-year-old had sung Gang of Four’s ‘I Love a Man in Uniform’ to her class during sharing. Oh God…
