I've always wanted to get a vinyl copy of this with the elaborate gatefold sleeve but I'm not sure how to discern between the products I'm being offered on ebay and Amazon -- and frankly I'd settle for a reissue if it's the same packaging. Is the Fat Possum reissue from 2011 a reasonable facsimile? What exactly should I be looking for or avoiding? Thanks guys -- I *know* someone here should be able to give me trustworthy advice.

Case in point: compare how different these covers look (e.g., Bolan's eyes) -- which is the original? http://www.amazon.co.uk/ALLOY-HIDDEN-RIDERS-TOMORROW-VINYL/dp/B003G47E56/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1357984440&sr=1-3 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zinc-Alloy-Hidden-Riders-Tomorrow/dp/B009N918OQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1357984440&sr=1-2

The second with the blue and green eyes is what I've got. That was the original pressing. Due to production costs and the terrible depression of the times the spectacular mesh cover was a very limited edition. To this day I've never even seen one. http://www.popsike.com/TREX-ZINC-ALLOY-FOLDOUT-SLEEVE-NUMBERED-LP-EXEX/130509403669.html Fuck... I'd forgotten just how good that album was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGJrLxr-pb8

I also bought a cheap import Italian import copy back in the 70's, too. That isn't a gatefold but it's got the blue/green eyes, too. TBH Not sure I've ever seen the one with the brown eyes. I don't have the original mesh ltd edition one either, though - unless my memory is playing tricks with me - I have seen a copy at a Bolan fans place back in the 70's. I have a vague memory of feeling a bit jealous! Much maligned LP. I love it!

Mine's gatefold, of course... and always jumped in the intro of 'Venus Loon'. Gotta stick a link up to that sublime track, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTPMtj4buTY Who were those school friends who slagged Bolan off by saying "All his songs sound the same."

Yeah, there were lots of them weren't there? Mind you, I guess it was the age when, to quote the cliche, every album had to have the obligatory reggae number. I don't blame The Beatles for much but I do blame them for everyone thinking that their albums had to be diverse in material. I guess punk addressed that! Going off on a tangent I remember Lloyd Cole saying he blamed Bowie for trying to make each album sound different to the previous one and that he'd realised that whilst it worked for Bowie it didn't necessarily work for him and he wasn't gonna worry about that anymore. Or summat like that anyway!!

That's a lot of money for a damaged sleeve! Shame. The seller is just down the road from me. Wonder if I know him?

I'll hold the ladder while you shimmy up into his window. I think he's got a couple of copies.

During the early 1980's I saw a copy of this LP at Relaunch Record in Wilton Market Birmingham B23. The copy Mr Butler selling was accompanied with a letter from The Sun Newspaper. This was numbered and given away as a Sun paper prize, who knows there could have been a TV campaign with Christopher Timothy talking very fast as was his wont. I can't see anything on the internet except that a dedicated Bolan website states that the LP has a numbered limitation of 1000 and used as prize. If you want to find a copy then this would be the one to invest in.
