Copendium Vols 1 and 3: some nice rediscoveries (Orthodox - Geryone's Throne) and stuff I'd not previously heard (Haare - The Temple) Bong - Mana Yood Sushai Bong - Beyond Ancient Space August Born - s/t: Collaboration between Ben Chasny and a Japanese musician whose name I forget. Perfectly fine LP but better to explore the Drag City Six Organs releases. This seems to be recorded around Dark Noontide period and has that kind of feel. Gala Drop with Ben Chasny - Broda Michio Kurihara - Sunset Notes: Got this after reading an interview with him stating how he was interesting in creating feelings evoked by sunset and nostalgia of fond childhood memories etc. A lovely LP if a little twee in places. But some fine moments. Om - Variations on a Theme Om - Pilgrimage: Rediscovering Om after reading Cope's review. I liked these but thought I didn't need more than Variations... but really enjoyed Pilgrimage and have ordered the new one. Circle - Forest Gnod - 5th Sun Motion Sickness of Time Travel - s/t And some Copendium inspired listens: Randy Holden - Population II Billy Miller/Cold Sun - Dark Shadows Comets on Fire - Field Recordings from the Sun

A bit burned out by the sheer number of records that I have in my "must listen soon" pile so didn't listen to much music at all last week. Catching up on World Service podcasts and such instead. Rumer's unimprovable "Boys Don't Cry" covers album and the Proms "Pelleas" were about it for me. Had a great time at Cambridge Folk Festival so will hopefully take a crack at that pile with refreshed ears and much to recommend come Sunday!

SUN RA - Lanquidity (I really love this one ... finally found a vinyl so I can study it properly ... the title sums up the sound perfectly ... also the guitar player(s) amazing ... a bit like In A Silent Way, maybe?) GLOWPEOPLE - Things ... (love having this on to chill to ... it tends to suck my friends in deep, tho, and cause them to exclaim with wonderment) HOWLIN RAIN - The Good Life (ep) (Title track has been stuck in my head on and off for MONTHS. Not sure if you can still get this. It's wonderful. 3 tunes, recorded in a day.) GRATEFUL DEAD - Wake Of The Flood (many many beautiful moments on this ... maybe their best studio work ... the version of the band with just Billy but no Mickey always gives me the best kick, no offense to Mickey who is also wonderful ... great songwriting and a wonderful introduction to the band for neophytes, which is what occasioned this spin) L. A. WITCH - http://lawitches.bandcamp.com/ (not actually home listening for the most part ... shared a bill with them the other night and their soundcheck moved me brightly ... the track on the bandcamp sounds about like the live show, tho they may have got tighter since the recording) FIONA APPLE - The Idler Wheel (wasn't sure I was going to like this, but I really, really do. too many great details to get into now. rewards repeated replays. worth mentioning only two musicians on the entire record, and one of them is Keith Richards' drummer.)

Loving the latest OM record - Advaitic Songs. pure bliss at times and with the subtle addition of more instrumentation in keeping with the general OM aesthetic - electronic sub-bass, tamboura, cello, viola, female vox, lovely stuff also been tanning dan ar bras' Terre Nouvelle - best I've heard from him so far! (has Emannuelle Parrenin appearing on it! as well as Benoit Widemann and Dave Pegg) Alan Stivell - Reflets (good version of Tawney's Sally Free & Easy on it, not as good as Trees' uber-version, but not far off) Kraftwerk - Man Machine
