Yup, you're probably right. Still, you know, trips not guns!

It's a truly great folk ( not just folk though ) album , in a storytellin sense, even though he means it, just remember it's just great storytellin, revolutions ARE really fucking messy, i think this is just a fact, and the album will drag you to the underworld, roswell on mushrooms and you'll probably have fucking contact with aliens, amazingly raving on the moor seems to fit between autogeddon blues and upwards at 45', and thats clearly sayin something!!!

I hate to be ungracious when the artist is the host of such a fine web site and hence provides the meeting point for this community of fellow travelers but surely I am not the only person listening to this record and shaking with laughter at some of it? Buy Folk The Banks instead would be my advice. Better sleeve too as it happens if you want to have something that Occupies your record collection. Sorry but to my mind he is simply much better (a pop genius in fact) with metaphysics than with geopolitics.

Heheh.. His metaphysics isn't that great either tbh.. I don't think I'll try this album, judging from the responses its everything I feared it would be. This whole appropriation of the anarcho communist flag (or anarcho syndicalist if you are so inclined.. er.. and confused ;)) just.. irks me. Well that, and then whacking a quote from Hegel on a recent sleeve, its silly, or opportunist, or oddly inconsistent, or something. I don't mind appropriation at all really, if you've got a Dadaist or a Situationist approach. He.. um.. hasn't.. to my eyes anyroad.

Well, yes. It's as if the entire aesthetic of the record was based on the Pop Group's "Rob A Bank" (a track which had its tongue so firmly planted in its cheek as to be almost pornographically absurd) but forgot to bring the Dada that was such a vital component in the Pop Group experience. It is the difference between being The Dave Spart Five and a musical equivalent of John Heartfield.

A few words about the record:

Cd1 is not my cup of tea! I' m a bit tired of that type of songs, explosions, etc. Vive Le Suicide is the best track for me. The others... well... hummm... Nope!

Cd2 is amazing! Those first two songs are Top! X-mass In The Woman's Shelter is the best of the entire record. And to end properly The Death of Rock'n'Roll is fuckin' great!

Love you Julian, like always, but put the arms aside and give us some more good tunes, dude!

I've listened to it now, and I think I'm going to have to sit on the fence somewhat. Some good tunes, some not so good words. I do get a bit peeved at the swearinesses, I know I shouldn't but it means I can't play it in front of the fambly or Mrs Squid won't be pleased. That in turn means it sits getting dusty generally.

I must admit I think my musical tastes have moved on a bit too. A few years ago I might have been more enamoured of a song-based revolution-touting album, but these days I'm more into either fuzzed up psychedelic rock or spacey electronic things. I love the mellotrons and guitar sounds and his chords, but to my ears it isn't really that psychedelic, which is a pity. The most psychedelic thing is some of Holy's synth noises on the 2nd CD, and even they don't go quite far out enough for my taste.

Still, it isn't bad. Better than some of the senseless wham blam boom repetition of the Black Sheep stuff which I really found pretty unlistenable. And it might grow on me, it's early days yet. The Hooded and Benign track did send a good old tingle up my spine. Just a shame the tingles weren't more plentiful.

Edit : I think, that not only considering revolutionary history in general, but also what is happening (and has happened) in our present time with the 'arab spring' movements, that to argue that non violent revolution is possible is er.. churlish. Same goes for defending yourself on a peaceful protest, just how many times can you be hit with a stick before you'll think about hitting back ?

Fair point, but sheer mass of logic and peaceful process with determined intent will always win, given the momentum it has to create by its very own intent. The Governing will do what ever is necessary to survive. They'll accommodate and if needs be mutate enough to save their power arse positions and sell every principle so long as they can self perpetuate - that way, if we get them by the bollocks, change lies. It's a natural process.

Indeed. Otherwise the so-called revolution is just another bunch of totalitarian ***** telling other people how to live at gun point. Again.
