Something that i have been listening to a bit, and that i would like to bring to people's attention is Anais Mitchell's Hadestown. It is a conceptual piece about orpheus and persephone and all that shit. Amazing. Been out for a couple of years, but i keep returning to it. On a similar theme, Jah Wobble's Return to Hades is to coin a phrase, haunting. And i didn't mind The new adaptation of The Clash of the Titans at all. I think there is going to be a sequel!

Couple of weeks worth: Three top-notch recentish releases. Jenny Hval - Viscera. Another great album from Rune Grammofon. Evangelista (Carla Bozulich) - In Animal Tongue. Julia Holter - Tragedy. Akira Sakata/Jim O'Rourke/Chikamorachi - And That's the Story of Jazz. Angel - 26000. Richard Youngs - Amplifying Host. Wilco - The Whole Love. Henry Flynt (with CC Hennix) - Glissando No1. Gareth Dickson - Spruce Goose. Sun Ra - Atlantis. Sun Ra - Heliocentric Worlds Vol I. Ynwil - s/t. (Saw opening/backing Gruff Rhys - great fun as was Gruff). Aereogramme - Sleep and Release. Rocket From the Crypt - Scream Dracula Scream. (Think this one has aged extremely well and guaranteed to bring a smile to the face!) Arthur Russell - Calling Out of Context. Bert Jansch - s/t. Bert Jansch - It Don't Bother Me. Louis Stewart - Overdrive. (Very unsung jazz guitarist). Jack De Johnette - Sorcery. Opeth - Damnation. First Opeth album for me after seeing their name pop up a lot on the boards. Really like this. Bunch of early Voidoids shows to catch Quine at his best. Have a great week all.

I've found these pages a good source of new music so I thought I'd stop being quite so lazy and share a few suggestions …. Mark Fry and the A. Lords – I Lived in Trees. Latest release on the very wonderful Second Language label. Mark Fry (him of Dreaming with Alice fame), Michael Tanner and Nick Palmer have produced a beautiful evocation of the lost English summers of our childhood and maybe even the lost summers of our dreams. Disturbingly, the Sun (the tabloid not the star) likes it ... Headphone Commute - podcast of tracks from the Time Released Sound label. Ambient, atmospheric, filmic. http://reviews.headphonecommute.com/2011/10/11/mix-hc-time-released-sound/ Roedelius – Inlandish Popol Vuh – Revisited and Remixed 1970 – 1999

A proper writer and she handles her politics with a light touch too. Soapbox not included.
