"Mumfordisation" is a very good way of putting it. I know this is a classic wounded fan-boy complaint but her early eps and radio sessions really are the shit. The first album was good but not as great as I thought it was going to be. The second could almost have been anybody.

Matt Berry - Witchazel (I've been meaning to buy this ever since I heard Stuart Maconie play 'The Pheasant' on the Freak Zone and assumed it was from some lost harmony-prog-folk gem of the early 70s until Stuart back-announced it. Then I saw Matt Berry posing as Vangelis on 'Shooting Stars' and finally knew I had to have it. Somewhere between Circulus and The Last Hurrah, it's knowingly retro in a gloriously inventive and often rather beautiful way).

Agreed. One of my favorites of the year.

In she not stepping out with a Mumford? Maybe it's contagious?

I hope to see 'mumfordised' in the Oxford English Dictionary before too long. Alongside pasteurised, sterilised, standardised... made safe for public mass consumption in Tescos and Asda, all worrying quirks, indigestible individuality and sharp edges taken out. Guaranteed 100% bland.

Cheers for the opinions. I'll hang in there and give them another spin when I'm more in the mood for them I think. TBH I've been overkilling on the Bowie classics and the later records sound a bit 'thin' in comparison to such lyrical and musical riches.

Steered well clear of Earthling, D&B was never really my bag if I'm honest.
Though I did read somewhere it was more like the Low/Heroes instrumentals with 'beats'.

Earthling has its moments, you know!

I'm rather partial to this one.

More the Heroes songs with beats. Joe The Lion wouldn't look out of place on there

Earthling's an ace album. Wrongly dubbed the D&B album, IMO. The fact that he kept popping up with Trent Reznor and the like around the time is more indicative. Only good.
