just like the earlier style more. It's a pity that A Saucerful Of Secrets doesn't get a decent remaster, the version available from the early nineties is so attrocious I never play it. The Piper Mono was a revelation though!

Have you heard the Japanese Saucer? Toshiba did superb attentions to detail Kami Sleeve issues of al the PF Lp's about 10 years ago, which was possibly the idea behind the Oh By the way boxed set in Europe/USA

I didn't even know!

I am the reverse. Don't get the fascination with the Syd era. I like the vibe but very little of the music. Generally speaking I think Americann psych went further longer.

What really interests me in PF is how their records chart the progress of expansive middle England liberal hippie optimism as it curdles into caustic cynicism. They are in their own way the only band who chart that journey from 67 - 77 without getting into the whole self-mythologising thing of The Stones or whoever. For me Animals is the rock n roll embodiment of Britain at the dawn of Thatcher.

Much as I respect their later output, I think the Syd era Floyd was first class psych of the highest order, and I wouldn't compare it to US Psych as the they're very different beasts IMO. Also, I find Roger Waters' constant egotistical mental laundry basket rock star whingeing gets increasingly tiresome firther down the line. I think they lost a lot of soul under his dictatorship. When they were a more balanced creative unit in the early post Syd period, I think they had a wider focus and depth of feel. OK, some of the experimental stuff didn't always work, but they were more organic and interesting to my ears. Syd's idea re. bringing in some extra players ? We'll never know. I think it's a shame that he and Rick Wright never forged a proper creative alliance within the band ( something that Rick Wright apparently later regretted). That could have been very interesting.

I would think it is difficult now. Not sure if the ordinary issue in Japan is of high quality. I will ask my Japanese friends.
