Up to Silicon Valley for a bit of work, listening to lots of Ariel Pink.

Yes, I heard about that. I also heard last week that Vinyl has started to outsell cds for the first time in years in several specialist record stores. I guess the vinyl lp and digital download code is the perfect product for those that still want a physical object and the convenience of music on the go / laptop.

Keep thinking Ariel Pink has something to do with Pink the 'punk' pop star, or Vicious Pink the pop-dance band...

I've been listening to this absolutely relentless dubstep/grime album lately called 6 Feet Below Sound 2 by a group called Macabre Unit. Every song segues into the next one and the pace never lets up, only getting more and more intense. It's kind of like the Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh of dubstep in that respect. The lyrics can be a bit crude I s'pose, but it's a really ennervating album.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't released for sale, at least I've never seen a CD for sale online (might not have looked hard enough though, I guess), so click if ye dare.

That, my friend, is very definitely grime not dubstep. I see your point about the relentlessness of it, but also the lyrics which are (imo) excrable. I just wish the MCs would shut the fuck up so I can hear the beats underneath. Not my thing, but thanks.

Drive She Said. I always thought Julian had taken The Beatles Drive My Car as his inspiration for his DSS

I think its reference to laughin' Jack's post-East Rider directorial debut Drive, He Said.

I really must get round to that Unsung review of Hallowed Ground

Nooooo . . . more like R. Stevie Moore (the obscure home taping legend) caught in a 1979 California nerd timewarp (somewhere between Wings and The Cure?)

Cheers Mr Sc, Simple Minds will be quiet for a wee while after the Sept 11th gig in Paris, an estimated 100,000 attending. But I've been told not to fear cos some new stuff will be coming. Plus I know they'll be back bigger and better than ever. If you're interested, I think you are cos Grafitti was brilliant, I'll keep you posted, as I will do for other Minds fans. Meanwhile Lostboy band/electroset will keep Jim Kerr/Sarah Brown fans happy. The set he did in Hamburg was brilliant maybe I should put it up here?

I'm interested to hear because I must admit to not liking pretty much anything they did after New Gold Dream, but then I only really heard up to the one with the fields on the cover (sorry, can't remember the name) at the end of the 80s. I seem the remember there may have been a much-derided (in the press anyway) covers album at some point. So I should make the effort to hear the new stuff.

Must admit most of the new singles I buy these days tend to be 7" and download where possible. Although it will start to become a space issue again before long!
