dave clarkson wrote: "One other gripe - why is the box for these so bloody big???" I thought that too - maybe to fit the album sleeve cards in. 8) God, some people are never happy - it's big so you can keep ylour sandwiches in while your out and about with your Durutti boxset. Just don't ask about the "Return of" tracklisting :-)

But it's too big to sit on the shelf with the rest of the cds. At least the elevators box set was LP record sized & went in with my elevators vinyl Now what have i not to ask about the tracklisting of "return of..." for? There was 1 track on that disc that i had no recollection of ever hearing before - probably where side 2 of the vinyl would start...but then maybe i always skipped it. But do tell...

Suffice to say that the new CD most closely follows the black sleeve vinyl version (the track you haven't heard before is "Beginning" which was on that version) rather than the sandpaper sleeve version. If you want the full blah, see: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/durutticolumn/message/2473 Plus small extra: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/durutticolumn/message/2474

I had the black cover version, then got the CD "Factory Once" reissue where the track listing was different and "Beginning" was missing...

The Factory Once version was much-maligned, but actually followed the original sandpaper sleeve version of the vinyl (and the Factory cassette too).

I think the track tagged 'Beginning' on the sandpaper sleeve edition is the track 'In D' - track 5 on the Demos disc. Hope it is - otherwise i've got the second black edition inside the wrong sleeve and the pension fund will need a top up. 8)

....this is a pretty good Durutti discography.... http://users.rcn.com/rpsweb/durutti-column/discog.html and this is a pretty good Durutti gigography... http://www.geocities.com/mitchellmichael/dcgigography.html If anyone's interested in trading any live recordings pre 1983 - let me know. 8)

Hi Dave, Yes, the gigography is excellent - I have contributed a few ticket scans, etc. Mike Mitchell also runs the site linked to my previous post. Nothing worth trading sadly (you have access to all the Joy Division stuff too!).

Apparently there was a third vinyl edition (inscribed B3 on the run-off) which was in the black sleeve but with the sandpaper track-listing.
