Some straight listening led me into much folk rock of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Shirley Collins and the Albion Band and Sandy Denny. I also enjoyed a small toke and a good blast of The Seeds in memory of Mr. Saxon.

Moebius- Kram. New / forthcoming album from Cluster/Harmonia maestro, and surprisingly quite good! Chunky, rhythmic, repetitive electronica. Rote Kapelle- No North Briton. Nice bit of 80s In Tape Glaswegian indie. Joni Mitchell- Hejira. Mmm, jazz-folk. Nice... The Runaways- Queens of Noise. You can spot the songs Joan Jett wrote a mile off. They're the good ones. Astra- The Weirding. Pink Sabbath! Progress- Busy Making Progress. Krishna-bothering pop prog bubblegum psych, but I like it! The Verve- A Northern Soul. This stands up well, too. Hadn't noticed before how much this influenced BRMC, much more than the usually-mentioned Mary Chain. The Manic Street Preachers- Lipstick Traces. I quite surprised myself by enjoying this. I was a big Manics fan in the early 90s but haven't listened to them since, really. This b sides / live / odds n sods collection was... pleasant. The Seeds- S/T. RIP etc. Rikki and the Last Days of Earth- Four Minute Warning. Hopelessly uncool, which is exactly why you sometimes have to blast it out of the open window to drown out the Glastonbury-watching masses. Ah, I'm just jealous that I couldn't go.

Astra - The Weirding After hearing various people raving about this on here, I had to get a copy. Jolly good stuff, I've been listening to it a lot this week. Sunn O)))/Boris - Altar Still sounding fab, and what a great cover! V/A - Nuggets The only Seeds I've got is Pushin' Too Hard from this, so I had to dig it out. Madness - The Liberty of Norton Folgate Gets better with more listens, I really think this is up there with their best. It was good to see them do a big chunk of this live on the Glastonbury coverage. Neil Young - Weld Had to put this on for Matthew Squidling after we were both wowed by the film of Mr Young, also at Glasto. He looks like such a presence on stage, a big hulking bear hunched over his guitar. White Hills - Heads on Fire Sheer brilliance :-) This really really rocks. Now I want Glitter Glamour Wotsit too. Camel - Mirage This sounded great in the sunshine on Saturday, lovely gentle wafts of progness. Another band I want to explore more.

Yup. Very true. But it's what I've been needing to listen to. So, other stuff hasn't been on my player as much, lately.

S/T – The Seeds For obvious reasons. THE ETERNAL – Sonic Youth Only heard it once all the way through as yet, but sounds promising. Live stuff by Talking Heads, Terry & Gerry and The Violent Femmes YAWN EP – Lazycame AIRPORT – The Motors Good to hear this one again. Great pop single. Lots of 80’s singles inc THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG – PIL, SAY HELLO WAVE GOODBYE – Soft Cell and a selection of A and B sides by The The (loved hearing SLOW TRAIN TO DAWN!), Talk Talk, Madness, etc. Also lots of Human League inc (KEEP FEELING) FASCINATION and its fab b-side TOTAL PANIC, and the under-rated LIFE ON YOUR OWN. Best of all though was HARD TIMES which had me wanting to dance in my seat. The track I enjoyed most though was probably FORBIDDEN COLOURS By Sakamoto/Sylvian. As gorgeous today as it was back then. And last but definitely not least... SEE THA LIGHT / WAR – Alan Vega / A.R.E. Weapons Still the best thing I've heard this year.
