laughed at you referring to it as

"Al Cisneros -Gebel Barkal"

instead of as Om, because i couldnt agree with you more. it isnt Om anymore, it's simply just Al Cisneros in my eyes. When a duo loses one member it really isnt the same band anymore.

but yeah, you're right, its a killer 7". shame it was so ridiculously limited

Has he recorded a solo album? I didn't know about it. Is it as good as Los Hermanos' stuff?

It turns out that I've got very few CDs this year that were actually released this year. Must make up for it next year!

Korpiklaani - Korven Kuningas
Probably the best drinking music in the world. My top album of the year. Raah! Hooray for Finnish folk metal!

Julian Cope - Black Sheep
I'm really glad I can confidently stick a Cope album in my list of top tunes of the year. Marvellous stuff.

Uriah Heep - Wake the Sleeper
Really very good for a bunch of old codgers!

Blood Ceremony - S/T
One of my favourite new bands in a long time. Thanks for the recomendation, Moon Cat.

Dragonforce - Ultrabeatdown
The best ultra-fast widdley widdley metal of the year.

Muse - H.A.A.R.P.
The Squidlings favourite. A really very good live album indeed. Yeah, I know, not a popular choice round here.

C.C.C.C. - Early Years box
OK, so it was mostly recorded i the 70s, but I didn't know them back then! The best noise stuff I've heard all year.

I think the crux of the matter is that Americans don't do prog. Happy to discuss.

I think that was already the topic of a thread recently!

"Prog" as it is usually thought of is mostly a European (particularly English?) phenomenon.

I think the closest US equivalent was the "jazz-rock movement" of 1968-1975ish. Which was a sort of "progressive rock" but not "prog". ;-)

And I thought I was kind of up on things . . . so much I haven't heard! Including the newest by The Fall and Beck (though I haven't been that in to his records for a while.)

Heard Blood Ceremony on myspace last year, but not heard the album.

What's Fuck Buttons?

etc.!

There does seem to be a lot of crossover thought -- Black Mountain and Black Angels and Wire (and Cope duh) seem to show up a lot . . .
