apparently competition goes way back...

Stones, Who, and Zep were always amongst the highest grossing tours of the early 70's. Who and Stones got much more favorable press coverage.

Zep were seen as newcomers, usurpers to the 60's rock royalty throne, the US contigent was wiped out: Janis, Morrison and Jimi.

Apparently Pete tOWNSHEND HAS ALSO been unflattering towards Zep, though Richards has been appreciative of Page's playing , but not Plant's singing. Richards has also been dismissive of The Who. The Kinks don't even rate.

Richard's most recent comments may be attritubed to Robert's Plant's assessment that the Stones' current tour" gives bored old men something to do"
