It looks as though I shall have to copy all those John Peel Show tapes my wife has from the early eighties on to CD after all.
I can't imagine what my musical experience would have been like without him. I have a diverse taste and much of it thanks to John Peel.
As someone said ... End of an era.

Catastrophic ... surely this guy is the godfather of just about every musical genre to have been created since the turn of the 70s. All modern music owes this guy so much. What a loss...

There's a bit more up on the BBC now. It seems they played 'Teenage Kicks' after announcing his death. It's what he would have wanted.

after growing up listening to him, always coming back to him & 1st hearing so many of my favourite bands on his show it's difficult not to feel like you knew him.
no more new john peel shows, no more new john peel sessions................
he's absolutely irreplaceable. & i'm totally numb - probably just like music lovers everwhere...
