How about King Adora? The NME fell right on their arses with that one! Trying to persuade their readers they were the new great glam saviours, when they were just a bunch of minging plumbers in cheap lippy.
And whilst we're at it The Manic Street Preachers were the precedent for the King Adora hype. The thousands of fauning NME column inches devoted to their brand of arrogant glam still couldn't disguise the fact that they were a pretty average pub rock band. Still, at least they did actually manage to sell records, which is more than can be said for King Adora.
