Perhaps should start considering it. Get a bit of that late 19th century chic going. Certainly have enough Russians knocking about to do it properly. Off to practice my sorrowful poetry and work on my Consumption.

Oh. It was a twentieth century reference. To a tv show. Well that's me out the loop altogether. I thought it was a satirical comment on modern politics - drawing a stark contrast between today and 100 odd years ago.

I'll go and adjust my cummerbund.

Edit... Ah, that was the West Wing wasn't it. You were being subtly humorous damn you. Chaps falling over, that's real humour.

**The argument for steering clear of the SNP isn’t that Labour has a monopoly of progressive virtue. It clearly doesn’t. The real reason for being a Nat-sceptic is that, aside from nationalism, the SNP has no ideological core of its own and simply instrumentalises progressive ideas to advance the regressive goal of separatism. For the non-Scottish left there can be no question of a principled and trusting relationship with the SNP because you can’t build a common project for social change with someone whose first and only purpose is to smash up the political community to which you both belong. The left in England and Wales may want the UK to work differently, but they definitely want it to work. Nicola Sturgeon and her party want it to fail.**

The day 'union' was painted as a pariah (as unfortunately has fevered many up here) is the day any idea of what the left ought to stand for died.

Hell even Cameron is stoking up his very own version of 'English' nationalism.

I am sure will make many a skin crawl.

Nationalism is, was and will always be a sickenss.

The SNP isn't nationalism. It's socialism. You know that, and I know that.

I can't see it. The SNP come across to me as populist rather than socialist. In other words they will propose any policy that will advance their electoral standing *nationally* and therefore advance the move towards independence. Philosophically the SNP looks to me like a regionalist and centrist / social-democratic party. I see nothing in the SNP's history that suggests we can expect a socialist agenda from them over the long haul. If they get the result the polls are indicating I would love to be proved wrong but fear the worst.

Totally agree. I see them as completely self serving with their own interests at heart than interested in Scotland, or the UK. Then again they're politicians. I don't particularly see them as left wing, especially as they technically dumped us with 11 years of bloody thatcherism!
