Well I don't like these pages tbh and on the occasions I venture here it kinda pisses me off personally that that a person should be treated so shabbily and labelled a troll because he has opinions that differ from the majority. The closed shop term used somewhere here is bang-on IMO. Sure he's provoked a few people here but he's been sinned against as much as he's sinned imo. I've never thought of him as a 'troll'.

Do folks here takes this attitude into real-life? Do they not talk to people who have different political opinions? Two old acquaintances of mine have become actively involved in politics for parties I don't support, but they're nice people and just because they have different political views to me doesn't mean I'm not gonna talk to them.

I can't be arsed arguing about this. It's just my two-penneth.

You suggest that geoffrey_prime has been treated shabbily because his opinions differed from those here. I called him a troll because he'd hijacked a thread about Climate Change and posted twice as much on it as anyone else while never actually mentioning the issue. Are you defending that? Are you suggesting that someone should be allowed to continually post snide remarks about other board members without anyone calling them on it?

Really?

That's the typical reply I expected to see.

EDIT: I was going to add more as my own response was woefully short and slappy, but grufty jim has said it better.

Why is he "spot on"? What is it about geoffrey_prime's came-calling that you are defending? If I regularly responded to your opinions on this board by posting little digs and sarcastic remarks about you, while never actually engaging with the things you wrote; are you suggesting that it would be out of order for you -- or someone else -- to ask me to behave in a less antisocial manner?

Are you suggesting his behaviour makes him a victim here?

I could almost have typed that for you!

He was a troll. If he had an alternative viewpoint that he was prepared to argue, he wouldn't have been. As it was, his contribution to this forum is summed up in Monty Python's Argument Sketch.

And he'll be back.

Well, I post here as often as my job, commuting and expectant wife allows. That's not as often as I'd like and I still have outstanding replies for Merrick. I've extensive experience of working overseas in Europe, Africa and the US. I've worked with agriculture, tourism, antiques, fishing and the 'great evil' of the oil industry and know my light ends from my heavy ends, my ROVs from my sat-monkeys, ewes from tupps and my Mercators from my Ortelius. I like to look in on forums that both agree and disagree with my views and politics. I look at both Warming and Anti-Global Warming blogs, sites, etc. and truly believe there is a scam going on, on at least one level...

I've learnt a lot of great facts from here and I've learnt that some minds will not be changed.

But, if my posts are unwelcome, and this is for only lefty-eco-activists, then hey-ho, I'll just 'jog on'... No harm, no foul and no dummy spitting. ;-)

All the best chaps.

I never suggested your posts are unwelcome, jshell. I guess others may have, but I've not been here for the best part of a year so I simply don't know.

It was people posting comments that were nothing more than cheap insults and sarcastic snipes that I was lamenting. I'm unaware of you doing that, so I'm not sure why you took my post in any way personally.

In fact, I have no problem discussing Climate Change (or anything else) with you, as you can probably tell by my post on the Climate Change thread which was a serious and considered response to your assertion that there is no evidence that CO2 is warming the planet.

I'd be interested in your response to the data I posted (do you accept that it undermines your position? Or do you have information that refutes or disproves what I wrote?). I certainly was not suggesting that this place is "only for lefty-eco-activists", nor that your posts, or alternative viewpoints in general, are unwelcome. In fact, if you actually read what I wrote, it's pretty clear that I wasn't saying anything of the sort.

The usefulness of this forum derives from a range of opinions. Yes, I feel it's gotten too mainstream of late, but that's just my opinion. One among many. And one I may argue over the next few months. My criticism of individuals, however, only goes as far as those who act in an antisocial manner.
