There are several things that seem to have been missing from the coverage and analysis of this thing.
first off, everyon'e's talking like Iraqi waters are a fine and proper place for the British to be. We are an army of illegal occupation.
Secondly, there's scant mention of Britiain's imperial past in Iran. I've been offline but still near a lot of news this last week, and have yet to hear the words 'oil' or 'Shah'.
Most importantly though, there's this front page outrage at a country going to another's territory and taking people hostage, holding them against their will in a display of military supremacy, against numerous conventions of international law. The UK and USA are livid. But can anyone say 'Guantanamo'? Really, what's the difference, except that the US - with our tacit approval - does it to more people with more torture and for longer?
