There are provinces in the east where they still talk about the 'Golden Hordes' like it was yesterday. In central Asia ol' Ghengis is a hero- the father of civilization to them. You have to admit he was a success on his own terms, I guess.

Most militant tyrants are relieved of their darker reputations given a few centuries- Napoleon, for example, or Henry the Eighth. Through that vaselined lens of time the wrinkles smooth out, so to speak.
