Not that Geldof has anything to do with this, but he did praise Bush not so long ago for his great work and 'understanding' of the region.
What a moronic lying piece of shit.
Where are you now?

Geldof was speaking of Bush's PUBLIC intentions, to fight AIDS in Africa, which on the surface nobody can really say is not a noble idea.
But of course, public P.R. and the reality in the back rooms of power, and on the ground, are often two different things. It's been reported that a LOT of the money that went to fight AIDS disappeared without reaching the people it was meant to help, which has become a familiar refrain in anything Bush touches- Halliburton, for example, continues to suck up vast amounts of capitol without being able to account for where it all went...

This airstrike on militants is a different issue *(I hope that they all really were militants... more often than not these attacks tend to take out a lot of innocents at the same time...)

Read it and see. They're not even sure if they got the ONE guy they were hoping to get, but the place is left in ruins (the usual, dead bodies galore etc). Scummy, sorry.
Yes, Geldof's African AIDS agenda was so 'noble' that he told those leading AIDS charities (what do they know?) that they were WRONG to promote condom use. Even scummier.
EDIT:
Speaking out against this would of course do nothing for Geldof's persona. Or for his schmoozing credentials.

I had no idea Geldof was against condom use... what's he thinking? It's the cheapest, most effective method of preventing transmission of the virus (besides celibacy, of course).

As for military action, I'm not strictly pacifistic. There have been too many examples where cultures who didn't have an effective sense of self-protection were overrun and decimated by other peoples (Tibet for example). I'm not one of those peace and love nitwits who think you can avoid being slaughtered or enslaved by lunatic-agendamongers thru prayer alone.
The problem with militant Islam, and with militant Western forces (and Zionists), is an indiscriminate attitude when it comes to targeting their enemies- neither side seems to give a damn if a dozen innocents die if they can kill one 'bad guy'. Scummy? Yes. But out-of-proportion violence is not a trait the West has a monopoly on, by any means.

An ancient human method of dealing with conflict, it seems

If it weren't for him, we wouldn't be able to lie down, though.

So... we should redefine Khan as an early success story in population control...?

There are provinces in the east where they still talk about the 'Golden Hordes' like it was yesterday. In central Asia ol' Ghengis is a hero- the father of civilization to them. You have to admit he was a success on his own terms, I guess.

Most militant tyrants are relieved of their darker reputations given a few centuries- Napoleon, for example, or Henry the Eighth. Through that vaselined lens of time the wrinkles smooth out, so to speak.
