I've always found the best response to a troll using the inflamatory tactic is to use the following thought process:

"I can't believe they really mean that."

This will then give rise to one of two realities:

1. They don't mean it and they are trolling,

2. They do mean it and they are not worth the time of day.

One voice banging against a stubborn opinion online is never going to achieve anything, and if several folks join in the apparent troll would be laughing at the 'gang mentality' whilst an honest person of dubious morals would get defensive and appear to be an actual troll.

So you need to ask whether or not it's really worth wasting any energy. Read a post, seethe if necessary, but reply? What's the point?

Would you walk into a Klan rally in real life and say "But African people are lovely!"? What would you expect to happen? Social change? I doubt it. So why do it online?

Let the trolls play with themselves, which is of course what they always do before and after each trolling attempt.
