I think you have to expect the odd row on a forum like uknow - I'm always more surprised when we see it on MA though.

By and large, rows are fine. They're part and parcel of U-Know! threads.

Trolling is different and there's some going on.

Yeah. It's just counter productive and frustrates everyone just for some idiot's amusement.

Here's the closest example I could find:

Trolls are the only thing on the internet worse than a virus.

At least some effort has gone into encoding a virus. Trolling, especially nowadays when the concept is in popular knowledge is just sad and a sign of underachievement.

A bit like being in a band playing second generation hackneyed riffs - totally pointless and uninspired.

If it's the thread I'm thinking of, one poster is being given a hard time, and is responding in kind.

Easy to take sides, and think of one side as right and the other as wrong.

No, it's not you Dee.

I think one of the problems with communicating in this way is that we miss all the nuance of tone and body language - someone may initially intend to be amusing, wry, or thought provoking, but they may simply come over as being offensive. Then people jump in with both feet on the attack, and before you know it there's a war going on.
Like I said though Dee, you are one of the least likely around here to fall into those patterns of behaviour, so don't worry. =;0)
