Didn't think that would've made the international news. I think the American Pit Bull is banned over here. From the last 'devil-dog' fracas.

My wife is sometimes prone to dark humor... Yesterday on the drive to work, we had to hit the brakes to avoid squishing a squirrel. Then she poses the question... If you had no choice but to run over a chipmunk or a squirrel, which would you choose? Then she asks... how about with a cat or a dog? To which I reply, "which breed of dog?" Later she takes a poll with other people... who all ask the same question... "which breed of dog?"

handofdave wrote: Until the more violent breeds are banned, and I have my doubts that will happen, you should carry pepper spray or mace if you feel threatened by dogs. Actually we can't. Mace & pepper spray are banned here, complete with Tasers - under Section 5 of the Firearms Act which is the legislation used to control machine-guns. Mace 'can' get you 5 yrs inside over here... handofdave wrote: I've never had a problem with them myself- but I'm a six-footer. I'm 6'5". All height means is that it's easier for big dogs to chew your bollox completely off!

According to wikipeadia, The Dangerous Dogs Act: Four breeds in particular were targeted by the Act: * Pit Bull Terriers - note that 'pit bull' refers to several different breeds, and is not a breed in and of itself * Tosa * Dogo Argentino * Fila Brasileiro It was made illegal to own any of these dogs without specific exemption from a court. The dogs have to be muzzled and kept on a lead in public and they must be registered and insured, and receive microchip implants. Although the Act was also supposed to ban the breeding, sale and exchange of these dogs, it is questionable how effective it has been. My bold.
