Is this just another form of lazy journalism? Of course, what does it really matter. Not much I suppose. But the amount of interviews where the interviewee's comments are followed up by "you may say that but". It seems an excuse to say "I hearing but not listening (or is that the other way round?!)- and here is my two-pennuth - please listen to my voice because I like it - irrespective of any facts" Just occasionally it would be nice to hear something like "you say that; what evidence do you have to support your argument?" or "can you give an example of what you mean". Ho hum

It's strange that it gets used by politicos seeing as it's from David Nobbs' House Of Cards trilogy (or at least came into common parlance on the back of the TV version) and was the ultimate in slimy crooked doublespeak.

Argha! "You may say that but..." is definitely the lazy-arsed and inferior way to say: "Shut the fuck up, listen to me."
