Fatal Fogous
Feb 28, 2003, 13:49
Ive mostly been re-reading Joseph Campbells Primtive Mythology lately, and theres tons of stuff on the subject of human sacrifice in neolithic tribal custom. He also mentions the spiral maze and its reflection on the gateway to the land of the dead and more specifically its application on the entrance to Newgrange. As I was reading about the gruesome methods used and the practice of disinterring the remains after a live burial and venerating the bones etc of the dead.

During the course of the book, various trenches, chasms, prepared chamberes and such as mentioned, into which the bodies or the live supplicants are placed and then quickly sealed up again. It occured to me that a similar practice may have occured with fogous or other chambers, but i admit to knowing little on the subject!

Is there any evidence to suggest this may be the case, or have remains ever been discovered in a Fogou?
