AN said “If you correct John Michell's grid bearing of 66.5 degrees to a true north bearing it comes out as 69.23 degrees which is very close indeed to the 69.36 degrees that I calculated.”

What has confused you is grid convergence ,it’s awkward but if you get it wrong it really messes things up .Simply put “: “It is positive when Grid North lies east of True North”.
“.In this case grid north is west of true north meaning it is negative i.e. you take away the convergence from the bearing to find the azimuth . so it’s 66.5 minus convergence not plus .
The upshot is that the bearing of 66.5 is very close to 5 degrees out from the actual azimuth (68 degrees ) that aligns with the sun on the horizon at May day .
n.b. Bearings are related grid north ,azimuths to true north . hence 2 quite different figures for the same event .

You had earlier said that “John Michell did not make mistakes with measurements.”
Joining up points on a map with a straight edge and pencil does not involve any measurement ,in fact there is little of any measure in book . But we have one here i.e. where Michell says “It may therefore be significant that a line drawn on the map through Men an tol towards the May day sunrise at an angle of 66.5 degrees “
Whichever way you look at it there has been a mistake in measurement .
The May day sunrise of 66.5 degrees is a measurement ,it is also wrong .
The line drawn on the map is on a bearing of approx 66.5 degrees but it does not point to the May day sunrise .The bearing for the sunrise is 63.4 degrees .
Another monument supposedly on the “alignment “ is Bosullow Trehellys ancient settlement This site ,another of the type that doesn’t fit into the three main considered types provides a target a100 yards but it also happens to have yet another grid ref a whopping 1100 plus yards from the correct spot . It’s not as if you can miss it , it’s a settlement not a stone .

Again ,this is new ,or at least I am unaware of anyone having pointed this out previously ,are you ? , and we still haven't covered all the older problems .

PS Cerrig, I have to make it clear I'm still convinced that your “You (and your shadow)" remark to George was indeed a deliberate sideswipe at me, given that only he and I had commented negatively at that point. (Please note also Rhiannon's remark: “I actually thought the "shadow" remark also was pointed at Nigel. So if he thought it he wasn' t the only one”.) You yourself added further evidence by following up with two subtle digs at me (“not talking about you, for one simple reason, why would I ? ” and “why you would make a link that wasn't intended is a bit curious, unless you recognised that maybe it could have applied to you. But why would you do that?”) even though I hadn't said a word against you and twice tried to brush the whole thing off with cheerful references to how sunny it was. So no, denial not accepted I'm afraid.

To save you the trouble, no I shouldn't be analysing so closely and should get a life but I really don't see why you should get away with saying there's “absolutely no evidence for it” when there's oodles. Particularly in view of the irony that I believe there's “absolutely no evidence” for the earth energies bollocks whereas you think there is, presumably. Of course, if your book contains some I'll be absolutely delighted, honestly. Another gloriously warm day today, hooray.)

Funnily enough Nigel, last night I was reading something that mentioned Jung's idea of the 'collective unconscious'. Which I kind of knew of vaguely, but certainly didn't remember until I read it that one of the 'archetypes' is The Shadow. One of those weird coincidences that it should come up.

And I think this Shadow is supposed to represent the crappy bits of one's personality that the main conscious bit of you doesn't want to acknowledge. So if that is what cerrig was referring to, then they were talking about a side of Tiompan, rather than anything to do with you.

funny how these things turn up.

(or maybe just proof of Things At Work :)

ps it is nice and sunny isn't it. I've just been out for a nice botanical walk and saw loads of snails and various other invertebrates doing their thing, including some of these

very nice.

It is absolutely glorious, your nose must be nearer the ground than mine for I saw no beetles on my walk but a large black one in the compost bin the other day which I meant to look up. The Langridge woods will be a carpet of ransoms by the way ;)

Yes, I'd twigged there's a Jungian shadow but there's also The Red Shadow in The Desert Song that I was in in Bridgnorth in 1964 and I don't think he meant that either!

This weather, eh? Fantastic. That's the beauty of living in this damp dark country, we all come out and dance en masse like joyful mayflies for 2 days a year. #allworththebloodymysery
