I love this news story so I'm putting up here as well (hope no-one minds). Author of the beautiful little classic The Living Mountain has been selected to appear on the £5 note.

Oh that's great. Applause.

Looking forward to Wainwright coming to a tenner near us soon.

It's a pity David Cameron doesn't appear on one as I could do something I've always wanted to do...set fire to one!! Shame it's against the law though :-)

Got my first Nan Shepherd note today in my change and very nice it is too. Still not sure I like the feel of these new plastic fivers though.

Lots of people don't like the feel of the new fivers. I usually take them off their hands in return for a shiny one pound coin. Terrible to see people fretting like that.

Nan Shepherd on the £5 note

Violet Jacob for the £10 note

Marion Angus for the £20 note

Any suggestions of a suitable laydee poetess for the £50 note? Duffy and Lochhead are already well represented... so mibbe it's a punch-up between Mitchison and Spark.

There's a really good tradition on puting recognized people on Scottish banknotes. You don't even have to be Scottish (how inclusive is that!). I still have the Jack Nicklaus £5 note. Jack made a huge influence for golf in Scotland. Trump has not!

The best South Ayrshire links has been renamed "Trump Turnberry". That is huge influence. I'll drive past that signage today.

I once saw Tiger Woods in Troon. But I don't like to talk about it.

Trump tried to buy Aberdeenshire, not Ayreshire. Check your bloated and historical facts man!

We're having none of it now. The man Trump should be banned from Scotland. Most of us thought that anyway. Good for the economy? Fuck that!
