There's a really good tradition on puting recognized people on Scottish banknotes. You don't even have to be Scottish (how inclusive is that!). I still have the Jack Nicklaus £5 note. Jack made a huge influence for golf in Scotland. Trump has not!

The best South Ayrshire links has been renamed "Trump Turnberry". That is huge influence. I'll drive past that signage today.

I once saw Tiger Woods in Troon. But I don't like to talk about it.

Trump tried to buy Aberdeenshire, not Ayreshire. Check your bloated and historical facts man!

We're having none of it now. The man Trump should be banned from Scotland. Most of us thought that anyway. Good for the economy? Fuck that!

No. You are wrong. Trump has never tried to buy Aberdeenshire (it is not for sale).

Trump did purchase the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire (his second purchase in the North-East). It was a long time ago. For someone with such strong opinions on the subject,I am surprised you haven't heard the facts.

The Turnberry Hotel and its Links in Ayrshire (not Ayreshire) is nowcalled Trump Turnberry. That isn't a "bloated and historical fact" (whatever that is). It is simply a fact.

I am no fan of Trump and his property acquisitions or the way he treats his neighbours on the Menie Estate. I am simply stating facts.

You seem very angry. Maybe find a safe space and let it out. The rest of us have to get on with life and deal with its disappointments.

Thanks for your clarifying post on the subject of Trump in Scotland - I remember well the heroic Michael Forbes who refused to sell his land to Trump in spite of massive efforts to buy him off or intimidate him. Is he still holding out, do you know?

I fish the Ythan at Newburgh and I am well acquainted with the struggles of Michael Forbes (part-time salmon fisher and full-time liver on his own land). The struggle continues.
Michael won "Scot of the Year" in the Glenfiddich Awards in 2012. Trump then got torn into Glenfiddich and Mr Forbes calling them both "Scottish embarrassments".

That is not a bloated or historical fact. It happened.

Others continue to hold out too, but we have to remember it is those poor souls' waking and sleeping, their hopes for peace in retirement, their daily grind and their everyday turmoil.

It all happened and is happening. This man has influence. The Trump Organisation got an Aberdeenshire Council Officer sacked for doing his job. Martin Ford's casting vote which rejected the the Trump Organisation's planning application was later deemed to be "sending out the wrong message". Martin Ford was then sacked by a minority of the planning committee, but with only ten voting against his sacking and 26 abstaining it was a numbers game.

That is "influence" - whether we like it or not. The first stage is actually recognising it is there. If anyone is able to stomach and wishes to

This makes for an interesting read. From Martin Ford himself.

On Sunday I drove my very elderly father and mother down to Girvan for an ice cream from here.

On the way there we DID pass by this signage.

I've checked. We did.
My Mum and Dad laughed at the signage and Dad asked if it was true he (Trump) was going to be the next US President. I told him it was true. Dad was quiet for a moment or two and asked
"How bad was the opposition that they lost to him?"

I do apologise. I should have checked my own facts first. I knew that Trump had built a golf course in Aberdeenshire (I don't know why I said 'tried'). I had no idea that he owns Turnberry Golf Club though. That is even more depressing. The good news is however that he won't be allowed to hold The Open at Turnberry any time soon due to his insulting comments towards others during his election campaign. I'll shut up now!

Nae bother man. Trump gets people's backs up. Even to suggest the man has influence is enough to get most folks wrankled into a lather. To state that he has influence and uses that influence is to incur the wrath of the Gods. However an unpleasant fact that may be.

Our old Auntie Betty served her WAAF years in WW2 at Turnberry. About 100 yards from the "Trump Turnberry" signage. What makes a good level links course also makes a good runway. You can see the old runway.

I'm not sure if it is listed as a historical monument. Yup - it is.

https://canmore.org.uk/site/94164/turnberry-airfield

There is also a war memorial to those killed and injured at the WW1 gunnery school on the Ailsa Link (part of Trump Turnberry). This is quite close to Turnberry Castle which has strong local associations with Robert the Bruce and his excursions around Galloway, the Firth of Clyde, Arran and a battle at the Roman Fort by Loudon Hill. There are lithic scatters, roundhouses and various chunks of historical interest lying under the turf at Turnberry. Trump has taken on a bit of historical responsibility and stewardship along with his fancy putting course.

That too will get people wrankled and perturbed.

I got a Nan Shepherd £5 note in my change at the Ice Cream Shop in Girvan that day though!
