Reading this forum is proving bad for my credit card. I called into the library earlier, no luck. So I checked Amazon - loads of titles by Neil M Gunn. I've ordered The Silver Bough because the words cairn and stone circle kept cropping up. While I was at it I thought I should order The Living Mountain by Nan Shepherd. Turns out Robert Macfarlane has written a long foreword for this particular edition which seems to roughly correspond with his chapter in "Landmarks".

I know the feeling. The 'You may also like..' feature on Amazon is lethal!

I feel sure you'll enjoy 'The Silver Bough'. Gunn can take a bit of getting used to but once you're 'in'..

Have never read any Robert Macfarlane but somebody bought me 'The Old Ways' for christmas, so I look forward to reading that.
