That brought back memories of Nan Shepherd's book, think I 'exchanged' her book with Sweetcheat at the time. Macfarlane is of course the master of this genre at the moment. But, and I am sure he must have recommended her, Jay Griffiths' 'Wild', An Elemental Journey, is worth reading as well ...... and also,
Adam Nicholson's 'Sea Room' about the Shiants Islands just off the Isle of Lewis. there is some prehistory on these small islands as well, but it is a 'love letter' to the sea, land and ancient past....
