Apologies in advance for my newness and complete ignorance about this subject. I took my sun to the summer solstice at Avebury in the summer and he is keen to attend the winter solstice at Avebury. Can anyone shed light on when this will be and what we are likely to see/experience at Avebury? EH told us to come on Sunday but this page indicates Monday morning? Are we better to come at sunrise on the Monday or another time?

Can one of you help please? My 9yr old is worried he's going to miss it!

thank you,

Hi Dave, in terms of the experience of being at Avebury around solstice time you're probably better off going on Sunday. I would imagine there will be more going on than the Monday, but it depends on what kind of experience you are after. It will probably be a more muted version of what you experienced during the summer.
I'm unaware of any obvious alignments at avebury toward midwinter sunrise/sunset but one or two others here may correct me on that. If your son is interested in the celebrations, the 'spectacle' of it all, if you will, have you considered going to stonehenge? Stonehenge is generally considered to be aligned on the midwinter sunset but people will gather there and celebrate he sunrise! It's all a bit confusing.

Hope you and your son have an enjoyable time wherever you go.
