Reminded me of the former immediately although not connected in any way other than something many will feel empathy with. Hilarious! http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/reviews/puppy-love-bbc4-tv-review-a-very-funny-slowbuild-show-with-slyly-smart-characters-9873923.html

There the similarity ends ... though I'm not saying it isn't funny in a very quirky sort of way.

HUZZAGH...One up for the real detectorists. Like or loathe them like some obsessive people do, this hoard, in all probability, may never have been found without their help. Just think of the many treasures that could still be lying out there awaiting discovery by enthusiastic and free-thinking people out enjoying their hobby. We all know about the bad eggs but let's celebrate the good guys helping us rediscover out past. Might just think about investing in one myself ;-) http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/i-just-coined-1m-skint-4906903

I do hope that this news story doesn't encourage too many more people to go stomping around the countryside waving their detectors in front of them.

I confess to being an obsessive and indeed a bore about the subject so I won't say much but I would like to clarify that I'm not anti metal detecting at all, just anti-metal detecting bad practice - and so should everyone on TMA be because bad practice = loss of the historical knowledge that is the essence of TMA. (BTW, my attitude and that of everyone on TMA hopefully, is totally identical to that of the CBA, http://new.archaeologyuk.org/best-practice so it's not exactly eccentric or ill-founded).

This. No, that. "That" is correct. And I think it is pre-historical knowledge that is is the basis of TMA. Rather than knowledge of the historical period.

Okay - that. Anyway, have you seen the Youtube footage of the way this hoard was "excavated"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLY1YQbgdwA&feature=youtu.be No thought given to any context or proper recording, just digging a hole to get the loot. That's what's being lost, even where the finds are declared, etc. Historic or prehistoric, all the same.
