why do people visit the monuments of N Wales?

I am doing an archaeology project based on the megalithic monuments of north Wales. I wonder if anybody could give me some feedback as to why they visit these monuments? Is is purely due to an interest in the past? a more spiritual interest? or something else?
If you have a favourite monument, why/ what reasons does it make it special?
