Gathering Time: dating the early Neolithic enclosures of southern Britain and Ireland, “...is a research project funded by English Heritage and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. A monograph by Alasdair Whittle, Alex Bayliss and Frances Healy that marks the completion of this eight-year project is published by Oxbow Books.” More here.

I wonder where the quote on the Beeb site came from "It took two centuries for agriculture to reach Cheltenham from London – and then just 50 years to get from Cheltenham to Aberdeen." A wee bit London /southerncentric to say the least . Alison Sheridan has been arguing for years that the Meso/neolithic transition was swift and took place on several fronts , Orkney had earlier versions of many typically early monuments and the earliest extant housing in Knap of Howar 3600 BC complete with evidence of domestication of cattle and sheep and growing of barley and wheat In Ireland Ferriters Cove had domestic cattle and Ceide fields cereals in Ireland before 3700 BC and Warren Field "hall " 12 miles from Aberdeen had Barley , Emmer and Spelt between 3820 -3720 BC . The great Wen has been the source of many cultural movements but the Neolithic revolution , nah , yer kiddin' pal.
