Whenever I return from my travels abroad, driving towards home from the airport up the M40, I find myself mysteriously relieved to be passing through the wonderful engineering that is the Stokenchurch cutting:

As you pass down through it's chalky walls, descending back into Oxfordshire, red kites soaring overhead, Didcot power station to the far left, the lights of Oxford on the horizon... I know I'm home.
Favourite ANCIENT landscape feature? White Horse Hill, of course. You can see it from miles away.
