So everyarchaeological site needs to have all of its artefacts removed post haste?

And when the primary source is found to have been lost by the museum? or damaged due to visitor wear?

But surely the same evaluation could be done on any carved stones? the tools used is a generic type research question, not something that only this stone can answer.

Dig it all up and we could return the land to a really old landscape of shallow seas. Could we move the country back nearer the equator then it would be like it used to be maybe. Of course we'd have to get rid of most of Scotland and flatten a few hills

How can EH learn lesson's? Don't be silly.

They just wait till the flack gets too loud then move the member of staff to a new area.

Yes it is in many different ways.

Members of this forum have secret places that only they (not me) know about (and some archaeologists).

The argument is never IF secrets should be kept, it is how best to keep them.

What the blazes to you call elitism?

In my books its when someone REFUSES to give people guidance because they are not in the club.

Fitz will generally take anyone out if they are nice.

Anyone who knows who to ask - not all are privy to the info.
Well what a shame I'll miss it as I'm not nice!

Yes I'm still on the fence too.

The number one priority is conservation. When would this stone be best conserved. In a good state of preservation re-examination is not a problem.

In order for any hertiage object to be conserved by humans, it has to be perceived as important by a large section of the general public - they have to want to visit it, to provide funds for its ongoing preservation.

Otherwise, placing an object in a museum, in my opinion only protects it for twenty years or so and makes it's future tied with the political and economic fortunes of this country.

Labour are clearly anti heritage, to them it is a luxury that we can't afford.
