I agree that in the cities people should makemore use of public transport but if you live in a very rural area like what I do then it is not easy. In the hamlet where I live we have about 15 houses, everyone works in different directions and at different times of day.
What we do have in Cornwall now is a service called Corlink. This is a bus that thinks it's a taxi. You phone up in advance and it will pick you up from home and take you to where you want to go. Sometimes you may have to wait a while but it will come eventually (you are told if it will be late). At the moment this service is operating in 4 areas incl Southeast Cornwall and the west side of Bodmin Moor.
