Taken from the Sunday Mail (so it must be true):

"Springsteen to front The Clash

THE Clash are making an amazing comeback - with Bruce Springsteen as their new lead singer.

They plan to storm the Rock `n' Roll Hall of Fame in New York next month as a tribute to Clash singer Joe Strummer, who died of a heart attack in December.

The Boss is such a huge fan he volunteered to front the group at the awards bash.

Word has swept the New York music scene that Springsteen will join surviving Clash members Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon.

Their classic punk hits - such as Complete Control, I Fought The Law and Rock The Casbah - were a major influence on Springsteen.

An insider told me: "The Clash were hoping to reform while they were inducted into the Rock `n' Roll Hall of Fame in March. Joe's sad death obviously meant plans were abandoned.

"The group would like to pay a personal tribute. Springsteen would be the ideal replacement for a one- off performance.

"Although they came from different musical backgrounds he and Joe weren't that different as singers. They both have that unique passion and energy." I hear Springsteen - who regularly listens to Clash records - would see it as an honour to follow in Joe's footsteps.

The Boss's guitarist Miami Steve Van Zandt - a member of his E Street Band - plays Clash songs on his garage- punk radio show in New York.

The insider said: "If this collaboration comes off it will be an epic rock moment.""
