Mercury Rev - Dark is Rising
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
There we go... there's possibly more but that be all i can think of for now :-P

Diana Ross' voice used to really underwhelm me and i thought it wet and weedy (I once described her perfoamnce on Motown singles as being 'like a wet tissue breaking over a runaway train'). But in recent years I've come around to it.
And the way she sings on I'm Gonna Make You Love Me is a massive overwhelmer. The way she delivers 'I'm gonna use every trick in the book'; every fuckin time mate, every fuckin time.

waaaaay too many to mention, but right now anything by Stina Nordenstam or Tim Buckley's "Song To The Siren" will do the overwhelming thang.
