I think Nick Drake is too maudlin and gloomy. So much so that I find myself laughing. This may make me a heartless witch but I can't help it.

weirdly enough I find his music quite affirming and positive rather than maudlin. I know the words are all really miserable n stuff, but (as per usual) my brain tends to focus on the music, which I find charming and gentle. I particularly like listening to it on a summers afternoon sitting in the garden.

OK I am a heartless witch :) Mind you Leonard Cohen makes me sad, while it makes my partner howl with laughter at the 'comedy value' of it. Go figure..

not sure about cheery, but I certainly find him soothing, and that it is reassuring that there are other sensitive souls out there

it's hard to tell, but maybe nick drake is for boys.

whenever i play him at home, my girlfriend asks to listen to something else. it's not just the gloom, she likes plenty of that, but she finds his voice irritating.

i don't see many laydeeez on the thread singing his praises.
