A certain lazy critic cliché from the 80s used to point out this band as some kind of 'copycat' of their more famous labelmates, namely Joy Division.

Utter nonsense, IMHO.

Section 25 may not have been the most original british post-punk band, but I guess that at least on their early LPs (ALWAYS NOW and THE KEY OF DREAMS) they managed to conjure up a rather surprising sonic alchemy, with echoes of 60s psychedelia and nods to Teutonic kraut. In their best moments I'd say they sound like PIL or Joy Division on a Can circa 69 - 71 muse, or maybe like the most propulsive faction of the NY No Wave (ESG, Liquid Liquid) weaving gothic ambiences.

Without a doubt a band to be revisited / rediscovered.
